Why did you decide to become a councillor?

I became a councillor because I am a passionate advocate for the community. I wanted to use my voice and experience to get the very best for the ward I represent and ensure residents are heard on the issues that impact on them.

Who inspires you to be better?

My family inspire me to be better. They have given me the confidence to stand as a councillor and support me every day through the good and the bad. The community I represent also inspires me to be better especially the dedication and kindness from so many residents to their community.

Achievement you are most proud of in your role?

There are a number of achievements I am proud of. In particular being able to support the community groups in the ward who deliver incredible support to residents. I am also very proud of the support achieved for the Elemore site from the community and from council officers.

What do you love most about the ward you represent or wish to represent?

The people, the green space, the sense of community, I could write a very long list!

What misconception do people have about councillors that you wish you could change?

That we are in it for the ‘money’, its simply not true

Why did you choose to stand for Labour?

The Labour Party represent my political values of social justice

Do you have any regrets as a councillor?

I do not have any regrets as such. It can be difficult spending so much time away from my husband. When you are a councillor your family have to make a lot of compromises for you too. It can be difficult for your family to read things about you on social media and so on.

What do you love most about Sunderland?

The people! No matter where you go there is nowhere quite like Sunderland.

If you could make one law change, right now, what would it be?

Be kind to each other

I used to work in a radio station

I studied Forensic Psychology

My first job was in a bingo hall

What is your favourite song/artist?

I am a huge Paul Weller fan and one of my most favourite songs is ‘Walls Come Tumbling Down’ by the Style Council

What book has impacted you the most?

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

What is your favourite drink?

Depending on the type of day I have had – tea or Gin and tonic

What would your autobiography be called?

Describe a great day. What are you doing that makes it special?

Having some free time to spend, meet friends for lunch, a trip to the theatre
